Meibomian Gland Dysfunction or MGD, is when the glands in your eyes produce poor quality oil, or don’t secrete enough. This leads to quick tear evaporation. Often times it is due to them being plugged or inflamed. MGD is often the underlying cause of dry eye syndrome. Symptoms for MGD are basically the same as dry eye and include, grittiness, blurred vision, red eyes. If you see an eye care professional they will be able to tell you if you have MGD by taking a picture of your glands, or by expressing your glands, and testing the oil.
